Summerfield Homes Create a Greener Future for Killams Park Residents

Summerfield Homes is proud to contribute to a greener future for its Killams Park community. The South West housebuilder reflects on the environmental benefits of Killams Park where fewer than 10% of the properties remain for sale.

Situated on the outskirts of Taunton, Killams Park has been a desirable place to live since construction began in 2016. Upon the completion of Phase 3, the development will feature 320 new homes, thoughtfully designed to incorporate areas of open space and blend seamlessly with the surrounding countryside.

Covering approximately 22 hectares, Killams Park has dedicated approximately 8 hectares to wildflower strips and grass areas, encouraging local wildlife. Summerfield Homes will have planted over 1,100 new trees across the three phases and provide a new orchard for residents and wildlife to enjoy.

The tree species have been carefully chosen by the company’s landscaping contractors to create a vibrant, welcoming environment that attracts birds and pollinators while enhancing the area’s air quality.

Killams Park has been designed for residents and the local community to enjoy, featuring a network of footpaths that will eventually travel across all three phases. This design aims to create a family-friendly environment, allowing people to explore the entirety of Killams Park and its open spaces without the need to cross many main roads.

With families in mind, Summerfield Homes has already installed a small play area in Phase 2, with a larger play area planned for Phase 3. Additionally, Phase 3 will feature allotments for local residents to utilise.

The housebuilder encourages local wildlife to still occupy the area by installing bird and bat boxes in the new homes and has added an enhanced wildlife corridor to the Blackbrook Stream on the northern side of the development.

Contributing to the overall energy efficiency of the new homes, Summerfield Homes installs EV car charging points among other energy-saving features such as waste-water heat recovery systems for showers and adding Solar PV panels to a number of properties being built in Phase 3.

By taking these steps, Summerfield Homes is achieving EPC ratings of A or B for all the new properties in the current phase of Killams Park. This contributes to lower running costs for new homeowners, potentially saving them money compared to owning an older property.

In addition, under a Section 106 Agreement associated with the planning permission, Summerfield Homes has contributed to Somerset Council’s Education Fund. The Council has decided to allocate these funds to another location within the district, as well as towards new pre-school and secondary school provisions.
