Two Summerfield Homes Site Managers Win Prestigious Awards

On Friday 6th November 2020, the Summerfield Homes Team celebrated the achievements of Mark Woodland and Clive Linham who were both presented with NHBC Pride in Job Awards at the ceremony that was held online that afternoon.

Clive Linham won a Quality Award for his work developing Summerfield’s complex brownfield site on Monmouth Street in Bridgwater which was a partnership scheme with SHAL Housing Association. Mark Woodland was awarded with an NHBC Seal of Excellence for his outstanding work at Killams Park, Taunton. The Seal of Excellence Award is given to select finalists who achieved a Quality Award earlier in the year. Mark was one of only seventeen Managers across the South West to be awarded a Seal of Excellence.

The NHBC Awards are one of the most highly regarded competitions in the house-building industry, dedicated to recognising Site Managers who achieve the highest standards in house building. Across the UK 450 Site Managers out of over 11,000 entries won a Quality Award with only a small number winning Seal of Excellence Awards.

Judging for the Awards began in 2019, with each Site Manager assessed across these six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and Health & Safety.

Director of Summerfield Ed Khodabandehloo commented on the achievements of both Managers;

‘We are all immensely proud of Mark and Clive and it’s a great achievement for them both to be recognised by the NHBC for their outstanding work. With Mark winning an NHBC Seal of Excellence Award at Killams Park, his fourth NHBC Award and second Seal of Excellence for this site, he has officially put Killams Park into a league of its own for Somerset. It’s testament to his hard work and that of the wider team that Killams Park has become such a desirable place for people to live.’

New affordable homes for former factory site in Bridgwater

From Bridgwater Mercury, 28 September 2019

By Steven Salter

A TOTAL of 28 new, affordable homes are taking shape on the site of the former Slocombe’s factory in Monmouth Street in Bridgwater.

Officers and councillors from Sedgemoor District Council recently enjoyed a visit to review progress of the scheme.

These new homes, costing £4.3m to build, will be owned by SHAL Housing Association and are a result of the collaborative work of a team of partners including Sedgemoor District Council, SHAL, Summerfield Homes and EDF Energy.

Duncan Harvey, service manager for Housing Development at Sedgemoor District Council said:

“This scheme is an excellent example of how a brownfield site can be redeveloped to provide much-needed affordable housing.

“Providing affordable homes is a priority for the council and this project represents another significant step forward.

“To see construction finally starting on such a challenging brownfield site is amazing and is a testament to the hard work and strength of our relationship with SHAL and Summerfield Homes. We persevered, when many might have given up.”

Angela Gascoigne, CEO at SHAL, said:

“The partnership working has been, in my view, exemplary. SDC were determined this site would be regenerated, and the funding from EDF and Homes England ensured these homes will be at rent people on lower incomes can afford.”

Taunton site manager wins NHBC Quality Award for outstanding homes at the Killams Park development

Mark Woodland of Summerfield Developments (SW) Ltd is one of only 55 site managers in the South West to have won a Quality Award in the first round of NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2019. Now in their 39th year, the Awards are the most highly regarded competition in the house-building industry, dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house building.

Nearly 450 UK site managers have won a Quality Award in the first round of NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2019, representing the top 3% of the sixteen thousand site managers entered.  Being selected as one of the UK’s top site managers is testament to their commitment to delivering quality homes for residents.

Judging for the Awards is rigorous, beginning in July 2018, with each site manager assessed across these six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.

Mark will now go on to compete for a Seal of Excellence and Regional Award that will be announced at events across the UK in the autumn, with the Supreme Award winners unveiled at a gala ceremony in January 2020.

Mark Blackwell, Managing Director at Summerfield Developments said:

“I am extremely pleased that the team building homes at Killams Park has been recognised again for the third consecutive year. Whilst Mark Woodland as site manager deserves the award, it is a team effort and all involved with the project are to be congratulated.”

Commenting on the Awards, Nick Cunningham of NHBC added:

“Launched nearly 40 years ago, Pride in the Job has been instrumental in driving up the quality of new homes. Despite the challenges the industry has faced in recent times, this year’s winners have kept their focus on delivering high quality new homes for their customers.

A site manager’s role is undoubtedly one of the toughest in house building and their drive for excellence is very much at the heart of the competition. Receiving a Quality Award is a great achievement for any site manager. It’s no surprise that Pride in the Job winning sites have higher levels of customer satisfaction as these homes are without doubt among the best the UK has to offer.

On behalf of everyone at NHBC, I would like to congratulate Mark on this fantastic achievement.”

Summerfield Homes – proud to support The Taunton Toad Trail

Taunton based regional housebuilder Summerfield Homes is sponsoring one of 22 toads in Taunton’s Toad Trail. The fibreglass toads are sited in and around Taunton and the Trail will help The League of Friends of Musgrove Park Hospital, currently celebrating their 60th anniversary, to raise funds and buy extra equipment for the hospital. Proceeds from this project will go on improvements to the Bracken Birthing Centre, a new birthing pool and improved facilities at Musgrove.

It is hoped the trail, launched in July and continuing for two months, will provide family entertainment over the summer holidays and encourage visitors into the county town.

Summerfield Homes invited the pupils of Thurlbear Primary school to design their toad in a competition run earlier this year. Paige, winner of the competition, was delighted to see her design recreated when she recently unveiled the toad, located in front of the marketing suite at Summerfield’s Killams Park development.

Paige’s design incorporated bricks, a hi-vis jacket and hard hat in keeping with Summerfield’s business of building homes. The toad was carefully painted by Jenny Keogh of Go Create and lacquered by Holleys Autobodies.

Maps of the complete Toad Trail can be purchased for £1 at various locations, including the marketing suite at Killams Park, where the Taunton based regional housebuilder is currently building luxury 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes.

Killams Park is one of the most sought after locations in Taunton, just 1.5 miles from the centre of town, yet still enjoying stunning local countryside. Nearly a third of this prestigious development is dedicated to green and open spaces. The houses are beautifully designed, traditionally constructed and finished to an excellent standard.
