First occupiers move into Orchard Rise

The first family to move into a new development in Chard are delighted with their choice.

Orchard Rise is an exclusive site of just 15 properties built by Taunton firm Summerfield Homes. Located in Touchstone Lane on the western outskirts of Chard, it comprises an attractive mix of one bedroom bungalows and four bedroom detached homes in a highly sought-after area.

The Wells-Burrs, who have two young children, have moved from the other side of Chard into one of the four-bedroom detached properties on the development.

Carli Wells-Burr said:

“We were really impressed by the quality and finish of the house when we moved in, and the Summerfield Homes staff on site have been so accommodating and helpful.

“We wanted another new house but also wanted a good sized garden for the children to play in and we certainly have that here!”

Philip Morgan, Divisional Director at Summerfield, commented:

“Orchard Rise is in an elevated semi-rural location offering lovely views over the town and surrounding countryside. Additionally, purchasers can have peace of mind knowing there are no management fees or ground rents payable here.

“All Summerfield homes are built to the highest standards and benefit from great attention to detail to ensure they suit the most discerning buyers and enjoy Summerfield Homes customer care programme and a 10 year NHBC Buildmark Warranty.”

For more information and to arrange a viewing please contact the sole selling agents Greenslade Taylor Hunt on 01460 238382.

Boules tournament results in record bloodletting!

With the proceeds of Summerfield’s Boules Tournament, held in September 2018, the Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA) was able to take blood samples from 177 men at an event at St James’ Church Hall, Taunton, on Saturday 20th October 2018.  The testing was part of a national programme sponsored by the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust to provide early diagnosis of prostate cancer, a disease that affects some 40,000 men in the UK each year.

SPSA is run entirely by volunteers and, in conjunction with the Graham Fulford Trust, they regularly organise such events, co-ordinating medical professionals, laboratory analysis, venue and publicity. This occasion was the first time they used an appointment system, though they were also able to accommodate 40 ‘walk-ins’ on the day, and the total number attending was a record for them,

Simon Beck was one of those tested and he said:

“I was in St James church hall in Taunton October 20 and my PSA test result was red (6.5) and I shall have the biopsy November 29, then the results December 10.  What should we be doing to encourage men to get tested? I can reach quite a lot of people using facebook, but exactly how to do it, I’m unsure. Thanks for your help anyway, you people might just have saved my life, I’m going to ask them to remove it if there’s any indication of cancer!”

We were relieved to hear from him subsequently:

“Sample biopsy failed to find any cancer, just an enlarged prostate, so all well for the time being, exactly what I suspected for some years.”

Mr Beck kindly allowed us to quote him and waived his anonymity on the grounds of “the fact I was being tested is all over my facebook page!”

361 gifts donated in Christmas shoebox appeal

At the end of 2018 Summerfield Homes again joined with Wilkie May & Tuckwood to support the Arc (formerly Taunton Association for the Homeless) Christmas shoebox appeal.

We asked people to make the season a little easier for those who have unfortunately become homeless by donating shoeboxes containing small useful items. These included things most of us take for granted, such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, as well as winter warmth in the form of hats and gloves. In addition this year we asked Arc to suggest a few larger ‘wish list’ items and this resulted in donations of sleeping bags, roll mats and cutlery sets, all much appreciated.

The shoeboxes were collected at Wilkie May & Tuckwood’s Taunton, Wellington, Bridgwater and Watchet premises and at Summerfield’s Killams Park development and our administrative office in Taunton.

The final totals were a fantastic 361 shoeboxes and £640 in monetary donations; the cash will go towards buying more items for those who have so little.

Phil Morgan, Divisional Director at Summerfield, said:

“Once again, we were overwhelmed by the kindness of the local community. The response to the appeal has been truly heart-warming and we are delighted to be able to make a small difference to some of those amongst us who are so lacking in basic necessities, let alone home comforts.”

We would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to all who so generously contributed and took the time and trouble to wrap their gifts and bring them along.
