Summerfield Commercial welcomes award winning architect to Viney Court

Summerfield Commercial are pleased to have handed over the keys to the newly refurbished Suite 201-202 at Viney Court, to the award winning architects Stone + Partners Architecture.  As a result of the post-pandemic changes to working patterns, Stone + Partners decided to take a more flexible approach to the way they work which has prompted a change of offices.

Summerfield Commercial presented a great opportunity in a sought-after location by subdividing a large open plan office into two smaller suites. This allowed Stone + Partners to occupy a reduced space in a modern working environment with the advantage of having allocated parking in a central Taunton location, 24/7 access and excellent travel routes.

In 2009 whilst Summerfield were renovating Viney Court & Victoria House, Stone + Partners assisted with the architectural design of the two buildings and so we are delighted to welcome them back into a space they helped create.

Nick Ratcliff, Director at Stone + Partners Architecture commented;  Stone + Partners Architecture are delighted to take possession of the keys to our new offices in Viney Court, moving into a building developed by our good friends at Summerfield Developments (with a little help from us!) back in 2009. Designing workspaces to help organisations adapt to changed requirements has long been a valued service we provide to others. Now we look forward to relocating from our existing premises to a more flexible workspace, to suit the future development of our own practice.

Will Grant, Portfolio Manager for Summerfield Commercial commented; It has been a pleasure working with Stone + Partners Architecture.  Viney Court forms part of a courtyard of refurbished brick buildings formerly used as a factory by Van Heusen Shirts.  The building maintains many of the original features and now provides modern, open plan offices with good natural light and a distinctive loft style.  Summerfield Commercial are delighted to have created a flexible workspace which suits Stone + Partners current and future business needs.

If you are looking for new premises for your business, please get in contact with the Summerfield Commercial team who hold a large portfolio of commercial property throughout the South West, 01823 257961 commercial@summerfield.co.uk, www.summerfield.co.uk.  For enquiries relating to Victoria House and Viney Court, please also feel free to contact our sole agents Hatfield White, 01823 353033 mail@hatfieldwhite.co.uk

Boules boost for Maggie’s

The ninth Summerfield Taunton Boules Tournament began unpromisingly damp but soon dried up as play got underway. 40 teams from in and around Taunton enjoyed some very competitive boules whilst enjoying a bit of networking and a buffet lunch at Taunton Vale Sports Centre.

This year the event was in aid of Maggie Keswick Jencks Cancer Centres. Ilaria De Valeri of Maggie’s told the gathering about the centres, all within easy reach of hospitals, where patients and their families can stay for as long as they like in beautiful and relaxing surroundings, supported by experienced staff and advisers. They plan to build a Maggie’s centre adjacent to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

Ben Trickey, Commercial Director at Summerfield, said

“Summerfield would like to thank the businesses that have supported us and our Boules Tournament again this year. A fine turnout of some excellent local and regional businesses has enabled us to raise much needed funds for Maggie’s, which was voted by the Summerfield staff as our charity of the year for 2019. The figure was then topped up by Summerfield to bring it up to a total of £3,250.”

Katherine France, Maggie’s Head of Fundraising, said

“We would like to thank everyone who took part and raised such a fantastic amount. As 1 in 2 people will now face cancer in their lifetime, Maggie’s cancer support is needed now more than ever. Your generous donations will help us to reach even more people who need us.”

The colourful ‘Rule Brettania’ team from Peter Brett took the fancy dress prize, with an honourable mention for the ‘gilets jaunes’ of Ashfords Solicitors.

It was an all-bank Wooden Spoon final, with Natwest taking the prize from Handelsbanken.

Chartered Accountants Albert Goodman defeated Croft Surveyors’ ‘Boulepark Figures’ to take the Plate, and solicitors Foot Anstey’s ‘HyperBOULEE’ team held their nerve to take the Cup after beating Chartered Accounts PKF Francis Clark in a tense but enjoyable final.

Mark Blackwell, Summerfield Developments’ Managing Director, said

“The Boules Tournament has become a much-anticipated fixture in the Taunton calendar. It is a pleasure to give local companies the chance to get together and at the same time support a worthy charity aiming to provide a facility which will be so appreciated by the people of Taunton and the surrounding area.”

To register interest in next year’s Boules event, please email Gill Ellis at Summerfield and to find out more about Maggie’s please visit their web site.

Summerfield cycle team hopes to raise £4000 for Prostate Cancer UK

The Summerfield cycle team completed their strenuous cycle ride on Sunday 1 September and enjoyed glorious Exmoor views in fine weather (even though they still had to pedal downhill because of a headwind!). They arrived in Blue Anchor exhausted, hungry and jubilant. Their JustGiving page is showing £3,747.28 as of 2 September but they are hoping to exceed £4,000. That would be 8 times their original £500 target! If you’d like to help them achieve this total for Prostate Cancer UK please donate via their JustGiving page. They send their thanks to all who have donated so far and to any new donors.

Summerfield cyclists quintuple their target for Prostate Cancer UK

Seven keen Summerfield cyclists are taking part in the Great Exmoor Ride on 1st September.

The team have been practising for the arduous 66 miles across the moor. The route, from Taunton to Blue Anchor, offers spectacular views but at a cost – plenty of uphill climbs!

Simon Gamlin, speaking for the group, said:

“The team photo shows us in the pub because that’s where all good fund raising challenges spring from. It didn’t take us long to realise we needed to be serious and we have quickly moved on. We are training hard and swapped the cider for coffee and cake. All support for this great charity is greatly appreciated by us all.”

Simon added:

“We have a Team Just Giving Page which we set up at the start. It is going really well. We started with a target of £500 but due to fantastic support from so many kind supporters quickly surpassed this and we revised the target to £2000.”

As of 22 August, the JustGiving total stands at a magnificent £2,475, with more cash donations and sponsorship money yet to be added in! But the team don’t want to stop there: they will really appreciate any further contributions. Taunton site manager wins NHBC Quality Award for outstanding homes at the Killams Park development

Mark Woodland of Summerfield Developments (SW) Ltd is one of only 55 site managers in the South West to have won a Quality Award in the first round of NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2019. Now in their 39th year, the Awards are the most highly regarded competition in the house-building industry, dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house building.

Nearly 450 UK site managers have won a Quality Award in the first round of NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2019, representing the top 3% of the sixteen thousand site managers entered.  Being selected as one of the UK’s top site managers is testament to their commitment to delivering quality homes for residents.

Judging for the Awards is rigorous, beginning in July 2018, with each site manager assessed across these six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.

Mark will now go on to compete for a Seal of Excellence and Regional Award that will be announced at events across the UK in the autumn, with the Supreme Award winners unveiled at a gala ceremony in January 2020.

Mark Blackwell, Managing Director at Summerfield Developments said:

“I am extremely pleased that the team building homes at Killams Park has been recognised again for the third consecutive year. Whilst Mark Woodland as site manager deserves the award, it is a team effort and all involved with the project are to be congratulated.”

Commenting on the Awards, Nick Cunningham of NHBC added:

“Launched nearly 40 years ago, Pride in the Job has been instrumental in driving up the quality of new homes. Despite the challenges the industry has faced in recent times, this year’s winners have kept their focus on delivering high quality new homes for their customers.

A site manager’s role is undoubtedly one of the toughest in house building and their drive for excellence is very much at the heart of the competition. Receiving a Quality Award is a great achievement for any site manager. It’s no surprise that Pride in the Job winning sites have higher levels of customer satisfaction as these homes are without doubt among the best the UK has to offer.

On behalf of everyone at NHBC, I would like to congratulate Mark on this fantastic achievement.”

Summerfield Homes – proud to support The Taunton Toad Trail

Taunton based regional housebuilder Summerfield Homes is sponsoring one of 22 toads in Taunton’s Toad Trail. The fibreglass toads are sited in and around Taunton and the Trail will help The League of Friends of Musgrove Park Hospital, currently celebrating their 60th anniversary, to raise funds and buy extra equipment for the hospital. Proceeds from this project will go on improvements to the Bracken Birthing Centre, a new birthing pool and improved facilities at Musgrove.

It is hoped the trail, launched in July and continuing for two months, will provide family entertainment over the summer holidays and encourage visitors into the county town.

Summerfield Homes invited the pupils of Thurlbear Primary school to design their toad in a competition run earlier this year. Paige, winner of the competition, was delighted to see her design recreated when she recently unveiled the toad, located in front of the marketing suite at Summerfield’s Killams Park development.

Paige’s design incorporated bricks, a hi-vis jacket and hard hat in keeping with Summerfield’s business of building homes. The toad was carefully painted by Jenny Keogh of Go Create and lacquered by Holleys Autobodies.

Maps of the complete Toad Trail can be purchased for £1 at various locations, including the marketing suite at Killams Park, where the Taunton based regional housebuilder is currently building luxury 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes.

Killams Park is one of the most sought after locations in Taunton, just 1.5 miles from the centre of town, yet still enjoying stunning local countryside. Nearly a third of this prestigious development is dedicated to green and open spaces. The houses are beautifully designed, traditionally constructed and finished to an excellent standard.
